Resources are used to give students information, such as a file or a URL. While you can see who has viewed these resources, there are no assessment tools in these content types. This page will provide details on some popular resource types. More information on resources can be found using the links below:
The Book resource allows you to create multiple pages under one content tile. It has a booklike structure and appearance, with chapters and a table of contents. You are able to create chapters and pages both in Moodle itself, as well as import from an external source.
To add a book resource to your Moodle course, follow the steps below:
Once selected, you can edit the book by giving it a title and adjusting the common settings on your resource. You will need to save and return to course before you can add any content. Once you have done so, you can add a chapter by clicking on the newly created book from the course page. You can create more chapters by opening the block drawer on the right side of the screen when inside the book. Once the drawer is open, you have the option to add, edit, and rearrange the book chapters for your book.
Alternatively, if you have the content you want saved elsewhere, you can select Import Chapter after clicking on the book from the main course page. This will allow you to import chapters using a .zip file or microsoft word.

A file is a document that is uploaded externally, rather than linked to online. Files include PDFs, Word documents, powerpoints, .mp3 files, and more. Be cautious when using files, as students will need the proper software to be able to open them. To add a file to your moodle course, follow the steps below

The folder resource allows you to organize multiple files into one resource block. You can upload files individually in the settings for the folder resource, or upload multiple as a .zip file. To add a folder resource, follow the steps below:
The page resource is a document with information created by a teacher. It is displayed in Moodle and does not require any software or downloads on the student's part. Pages can include text as well as images, audio, video and more. To add a page to your Moodle course, follow the steps below:
Text and media is a resource that appears directly on the Moodle course page. Unlike other resources and activities, users do not click on the resource to view it. Instead, it automatically appears on the page. Text and media can include text, images, and code. It is useful for displaying information you'd like students to see immediately when viewing the course page. It can also be used to add visuals or engaging text to your course page and make it more engaging. You can arrange this media in any way you'd like in the section you place it in, just as you would with any other resource. To add text and media to your course page, follow the steps below:
The URL resource allows you to link to a website or online file. You optionally have the ability to add a description to the URL link as well, which can be useful for students to learn more about the link they are clicking. Please be aware when using the URL resource that the link you upload is a link to a website and not a link to a file saved on your computer. Additionally, if you are linking to an online repository such as onedrive, you must ensure that the permissions for that file are set so that anyone with the link can view the file.
