A Reserve is an item that has been set aside from the general library collection for use in specific King's courses. Course reserves can include both physical books and electronic books. You can view a complete list of course reserve materials on the Library Course Reserve Page. This link can also be found on the library's homepage under "Quick Links".
The course reserve list will be organized according to course name, and you can search for your course or instructor using the search bar. Once you find your course, click on it and you will be taken to a list of all the items the library has for this course.
To access a physical reserve, visit the library service desk and speak to a staff member. They will check the item out to you using your King's Student ID card.
To access electronic items, follow the link on the course reserve listing online. You may need to sign in using your King's email and password. Some electronic items only allow a certain amount of users to view them at the same time. If you cannot access an electronic item, check again later to see if you have access. If you are continually not able to access an item, please reach out to the library for help.
Items that are placed on reserve are there to provide access to specific materials by the entire class. Be respectful of your classmates and return materials when they are due or sooner so everyone who needs it can use it.
Loan periods for reserve items vary. They can be as short as 1 hour and as long as 1 week. The most common, however, is 1 day.
Print reserves that are returned late will be charged overdue fines. Hourly loans are fined at $1/hour past their due time, and Daily and weekly loans are fined at $1/day past their due date. Be courteous to your fellow classmates and return the item on time so they can also access the item. View the table below for more detailed information on loan periods and fines
| Loan Period | Overdue Fines | Notes | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Hour Loans | Due exactly one hour from the time it was signed out. For example if it was signed out at 9:18 AM, it will be due back at 10:18 AM. | $1.00/Hour | Items signed out within an hour of closing time will be due back at opening the next open day (i.e. 8:00 AM) |
| 1 Day Loans | Due back the following open day before closing. | $1.00/Day | Items signed out on a day before a closed date will be due the next open day. For example, since the library is closed Saturday/Sunday, an item checked out on a Friday would be due back on Monday before closing. |
| 1 Week Loans | Due before closing 7 days from the day it is checked out. | $1.00/Day | If the due date would fall on a closed date, it will be due back on the next open day instead. |
Return the items directly to the service desk if possible to ensure that they are immediately removed from your account. We recommend that hour loans are used in-library only, as these fines accumulate hourly and can result in hefty fines if returned late.
Items that are overdue for longer than 30 days will be assumed lost and an automatic fee of $150 will be applied to your account. This charge will be removed when the item is returned and be replaced with applicable overdue fees.
